Garry P's Odyssey

Garryp's Odyssey Blog Entrance

These blogs summarize, sometimes with too much detail, the summer odysseys that I have made. They provide the author with a journal of the trips, and the visitor with a peak into the RV lifestyle and it's pros and cons.

Odyssey VI - 2009 Re-kindlng of the RV Travel Spirit

The 2009 Odyssey blog has been started early. It will avoid political commentary, except perhaps for an item or three that may be deemed as humorous. Destinations are unknown. Travel style is undefined and may be local or extended trips. May be both Winter and Summer. So check back periodically. provide a little encouragement. Look for me on the trails.

Odyssey V - 2008 An Odyssey of the Election

The 2008 Odyssey did not materialize in fact. But it did in blog. It was an odyssey of the election kind. The Odyssey V blog was devoted to a disrespectful and outrageous monologue on the presidential race. Portions of the blog will probably be deleted after the election is voted and settled in the Supreme Court or by a public that has been misinformed by the purchasing power of a donation landslide of monumental proportions on the behalf of an inexperienced candidate with a most questionable past.

Odyssey IV - 2007: Destination Western U.S. REDUX

The 2007 Odyssey was an impromptu adventure with emphasis on the Western U.S., possibly including UT, NV, CO, ID, WY, MT, ND as time and fuel costs dictated. The new solar panel installation performed beautifully, allowing stops at more boondock and primitive camp locations.

Odyssey III - 2006: Southeast US

Having survived the two prior Odysseys, this year's treak will be across NM and TX to the Southeast states.  This will be a challenge in ways that the other sojourns were not: the absence of the wide open areas of the Southwest.  Boondock and inexpensive camp locations will be more difficult or impossible to locate.  The people will probably be less knowledgeable of, and therefore less tolerant of, the RV lifestyle more common in the West.

Odyssey II - 2005: The Great Western US

2005 travels encompassed the great Central West states.  In my opinion, this area is the most wonderful and easiest in the US for the RV lifestyle of long term travel.  I plan on repeating a summer in this area in the years to come, perhaps taking a little more time to "smell the cacti and cowpies" along the way!

Odyssey I - 2004: Alaska, The 'Other' US

The trip in 2004 through the Great West, the Beautiful Canada and the Wonderous Alaska was a pleasure as well as a challenge.  Canada was actually as interesting as Alaska, especially the far-reaching Northwest and BC.  Alaska has to be seen, and was a thrill in it's own right, with the glaciers and fishing villages, but the trip was plagued by massive wildfires that bacame an interferrence as well as a challenge.  I also had an undeservable number of mechanical problems on this trip. Will I return to AK? Only time will tell.
